EH! stands for Eddie Harris—and also nods to Seamus’s Canadian roots, where he spent his formative years in Vancouver. Canadians are fond of saying Eh?! The idea for an Eddie Harris tribute first came from Paul Stache, owner of the iconic New York jazz club Smoke, who proposed a birthday tribute concert. The show was a thrill and a resounding success, planting the seed for something bigger. In November 2025, Seamus finally brought the project into the studio, recording an album of his favorite Eddie Harris repertoire. “I wanted to bring some fresh perspectives to his best-known songs, while also shining a light on a few forgotten gems.” The album features classics such as “Compared to What,” the socially charged anthem Harris famously recorded with Les McCann on Swiss Movement. Seamus also channels Eddie’s groundbreaking work with electronic effects on tracks like “Mean Greens” and “Listen Here” . “For me, Eddie is the grandfather of electric saxophone. When we talk about the beginning of electric sax, it’s Eddie—he opened up new tonal colors using octavers, delays, harmonizers, and envelope filters.”
